HISTORY & VIEWS
The iconic red-and-white striped lighthouse rising above Assateague Island.
About the attraction
Built in 1867, the active 142-foot Assateague Lighthouse is one of the Eastern Shore’s best-known landmarks. A short woodland trail leads to the lighthouse grounds, and scheduled openings allow visitors to climb for panoramic island views.
Climbing dates and hours vary seasonally. Check refuge notices before visiting and wear comfortable shoes for the trail and stairs.
